Semiconductor Surface Engineering

Processing stainless steel systems for advanced microprocessor production

The Intel Leixlip campus is home to a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility which, in recent years, has undergone a major upgrade project enabling the site to become a key location for the production of Intel’s 14nm process technology.

The leading-edge silicon microprocessors manufactured in Ireland are at the heart of a wide range of platforms and technology advancements. Supporting this type of environment requires carefully controlled stainless steel processing, reliable logistics and clean, durable surface finishes.

For Intel, Anopol processed large sections of stainless steel pipework, requiring detailed planning to ensure process consistency and the creation of durable, clean stainless surfaces. Timely logistics, careful shipping into the facility and damage prevention were essential to avoid delaying the wider construction programme.

Bespoke facilities for large stainless steel sections

Anopol fabricated and installed bespoke process lines and post-process clean facilities, supported by unique chemical solutions suited to the application. An area of the manufacturing unit was remodelled to accommodate large stainless steel sections, improve throughput, avoid damage and support safe working practice, including the receipt and departure of loaded trucks from the continent.
